Does God wound us? Psalm 41 (actually Psalm 38) to say so. In this message, Paul suggests that we are wounded by God because of our sins and also because of our proximity to Jesus. Psalm 41 38 opens some space for ways to think through the pain we may encounter in seeking to follow God.
Maybe this wounding is more metaphoric than intentional. Perhaps close association with God includes walking with wounds.
Reflecting on the wrath of God, Brad Jersak has said,
Wrath is a metaphor for the intrinsic consequences of our refusal to live in the mercies of God.
